An Update on Our Favorite Pup: SSD Suzie

Our favorite pup, SSD Suzie finished another puppy class and she is one paw closer to being someone's awesome helper. This round, she learned cues such as under, leave it, fix, and place. Suzie's training is definitely moving along!

Commands and What They Mean:

"Under” is the behavior that helps her become invisible when she’s working in public. She tucks herself under a table, chair, or bench so she’s out of the way but still ready to provide assistance if she’s needed.

“Leave it” is all about self-control. She’s learning to ignore food, other dogs, people, and any other distractions in the environment.

"Fix" may be a newer one, even for seasoned dog owners. When SSD Suzie hears the cue “fix,” she knows she needs to untangle her legs from the leash.

Finally, “place” cues her to sit between someone’s legs.

Suzie Oct. 2021 Update 

SSD Suzie has leveled up! Our #SupplyChainGeek pup is on her way to bigger and better things with her placement in Advanced Training. SSD Suzie is an active dog who enjoys training!

She recently entered Advanced Training, the next step in her potential service dog career after her time with her puppy raiser. Before she entered Advanced Training, Susquehanna Service Dogs’ trainers spent time with her to learn her strengths and areas where she needs to improve.

Now that she’s in Advanced Training, SSD staff will work with her daily to learn what types of service dog jobs she might be best suited for. Suzie is spending her days in the play yard with other dogs, relaxing in a crate, hanging out with SSD staff in the office, and of course, training! Because SSD is building a new training center, Suzie and the other dogs in Advanced Training go home every evening to sitters who give them a relaxing evening and help them continue to practice their all-important house manners.

This is the next step to her becoming a full-fledged service dog. Congrats Suzie, we can't wait to see what's next!
