We’re back with another Video of the Week, recapping a session from our Supply Chain Geek Day event.
Today’s Video
Today’s video is a Lunch Chat with the American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN). Kathy Fulton, Executive Director of the American Logistics Aid Network spoke with Jody Costa, our VP of Marketing, about ALAN’s work, challenges associated with COVID-19 and more.
About ALAN
On #SupplyChainGeek day, we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the essential and inspiring efforts of ALAN and raise money to help support their work. ALAN plays a truly incredible role in our industry, providing logistics equipment, expertise and services to nonprofit organizations in need.
“We support the nonprofit community with pro-bono logistics solutions. That can mean anything from transportation or material handling equipment,” explained Fulton. “[ALAN is] working with the nonprofit community, understanding what their logistics challenges are, and going to the business community and asking them to support it.”
ALAN acts as a “translator,” coordinating communications between a nonprofit organization and a business in order to make sure that all parties are connected with what they need. ALAN often works around disaster and crisis situations, from natural disasters to the COVID-19 pandemic.
#SupplyChainGeeks To The Rescue
COVID-19 has, of course, presented an entirely new set of obstacles for nonprofits and logistics organizations alike. Unlike other catastrophes, such as an isolated storm or tornado that impacts a specific area, the pandemic has affected supply chains globally, all at once. Volunteers from ALAN have been working around the clock to provide support and #SupplyChainGeeks everywhere have been stepping up to the challenge.
“There are lots of businesses out there who are really doing good things with their supply chain. They’re making a difference, using what they have to make life better for others,” says Fulton. “It is people who want to solve problems, people who are willing to dig in.”
Find out how you can get involved with ALAN and provide talent, resources or donations via ALAN’s website.
