Welcome to another installation in our Video of the Week series, where we share a new video each Thursday with exciting updates on all things supply chain. Today’s video features our partner, Zebra Technologies. Keep reading to learn more about Zebra’s thermal ribbons.
Zebra Thermal Ribbons
Thermal ribbons are an important part of your processes—poor ribbon quality can lead to failed label performance, losses in productivity and ultimately, reduced profits. With hundreds of different thermal ribbon formulations on the market, how do you know which is the best for your organization? Zebra Thermal Ribbons go through a thorough testing process to ensure that the print will be readable and scannable every time, in any environment, and that the back coating will not cause premature printhead failure––saving you time and money.
Careful Testing To Yield High-Quality Results
Zebra’s supplies R&D team takes the time to carefully test each ribbon, and only selects those which deliver the highest print quality and durability.
The team uses Zebra printers and Zebra materials to ensure that the products work together seamlessly. Their testing process also incorporates a special format that includes small font sizes, intricate regulatory symbols and rotated barcodes at 203, 300, and 600 DPI, all at varying print speeds. To measure print quality and durability, the team uses a quantitative print analysis procedure to measure data.
Next, specialized equipment is used to see how the ribbon withstands different environmental conditions like abrasion, extreme temperatures and chemicals. Then, the printheads are viewed under a microscope in order to calculate the amount of ribbon back coating buildup and ensure that there is no negative effect on the printhead. Plus, Zebra understands that consistency is key, so ribbons are never substituted––customers will receive the same formula with each order.
