We have great news about SSD Atlas! He has been selected for Susquehanna Service Dogs’ breeding program, and he recently fathered a litter of puppies! One or two puppies from this litter will return to SSD to train to become assistance dogs.
Now that he’s a stud, Atlas will no longer attend puppy classes or Advanced Training. However, that does not mean his training is over. He is now staying with a breeder host family and is attending SSD’s Ambassador Dog classes, where he is continuing to learn advanced assistance dog skills with his breeder host. SSD’s Ambassador Dogs are highly trained dogs that provide demonstrations for community organizations of what assistance dogs can do. In Ambassador Dog class, SSD Atlas is learning how to open a door and is perfecting the cue “go to bed,” where he goes to a dog bed or towel and lays down.
At home, SSD Atlas loves taking naps and playing with his housemate, SSD Amadeus, who is a retired breeder for SSD. The two dogs love to play tug-of-war or play together in the yard!
Susquehanna Service Dogs is a program of Keystone Human Services and has been breeding, raising, training, and placing assistance dogs in Pennsylvania and the surrounding states since 1993. SSD is an accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.
