Each year, we are proud to honor an exceptional Barcoding customer with our Innovator of the Year award. This award recognizes a team that has implemented a mobile or automated data capture solution that has greatly impacted the business’s efficiency, accuracy, and connectivity. The winning team has demonstrated creativity, innovation, and a dedication to continuous improvement.
We are thrilled to announce that the 2021 Barcoding Innovator of the Year is the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority.
Virginia ABC is an independent political subdivision that generates revenue for the commonwealth. With almost 400 stores, Virginia ABC is a retailer, wholesaler, and regulator. All inventory is stored in a 300,000-square-foot warehouse that receives and ships approximately 23,000 cases of distilled spirits each day. All liquor in Virginia, whether being consumed at home or in a restaurant, originates out of this facility.
As we all know, many businesses were faced with incredible disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic response. Virginia ABC faced challenges at every angle, but they had to focus on gaining daily inventory visibility at each store and facilitating new sales channels to support their customers.
In one of the toughest years ever for retailers and restaurants—Virginia ABC was able to accommodate a dramatic increase in the number of online orders by implementing a new ecommerce solution. Virginia ABC partnered with Barcoding and Zebra to support the new processes with the latest in technology and automation.
With a focus on innovation, process improvement, and customer service, Virginia ABC was able to create rapid fulfillment, accelerated shipping, and customer curbside pickup across almost 400 stores during a time when the world was still reeling from the pandemic response.
Barcoding’s GoLive Services deployed ready-to-use Zebra TC52s for inventory and curbside pickup processes that integrated with ABC’s POS system. In addition, Barcoding deployed Zebra label printers to each store so they could serve as micro-fulfillment centers for respective neighborhoods.
Since their implementation, curbside pick-up and the home shipping sales channels have become extremely successful for Virginia ABC and their customers, and they see no signs of slowing down.
Virginia ABC truly lives their commitment performance excellence, one of their 4 core values. Virginia ABC’s innovations improved operations in the face of a global pandemic, provided excellent service to their customers, and built a new profitable revenue stream for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
We are honored to win the 2021 Barcoding Innovator of the Year award," said Virginia ABC CEO Travis Hill. "Thank you to Barcoding for helping us achieve our strategic vision around ecommerce and facilitating the best customer experience for our communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia." —Travis Hill, CEO, Virginia ABC
