What is RFID?
RFID is an acronym for Radio Frequency Identification. RFID tags are very thin, composed of a chip, antenna and an inlay. They are placed in a hang tag or label of your item so that they can be scanned by a reader. The tag antenna gets an energy signal from the reader and sends back its unique information in the form of an EPC, or Electronic Product Code. Then, the information is processed in a data-recording system. One benefit of RFID scanning is that no line of sight is required, meaning you can scan items that are in boxes or otherwise packaged.
When is RFID beneficial?
One popular application of RFID is for inventory. This allows retailers to reduce out-of-stock, out-of-shelf, improve display compliance and enable omni-channel fulfillment. Plus, factories and distribution centers can automate scan pack processes, improve shipment accuracy, automate inspection, and more.
