Will AR Overtake QR Codes?

While there is much speculation around the death of QR codes and what will replace them, they seem to still be doing well. In the past, most presumed that another type of code would overtake QR codes, or perhaps it would be NFC—but what about augmented reality?

At this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Augmented Reality (AR) apps were all the rage for gaming, which may cause the end of QR codes to be sooner then once thought.

With advertising, one main advantage of AR over QR codes is that it does not take up any print space, so advertisements do not have to look cluttered. Secondly, AR can be programmed to respond to things already in existence in the real world.
