RFID Spoofing vs. Cloning

I recently came across an interesting discussion that brought up RFID spoofing and cloning. But, what exactly is the difference between the two?

What is an RFID Clone?
An RFID clone is where data from one RFID tag is copied onto another tag, but doesn’t replicate the original’s unique Tag ID (TID). While their form factor and data may be identical, the copy is not the same as the original and could be easily detected.

What is an RFID Spoof?
RFID spoofing, on the other hand, involves covertly reading and recording a data transmission from a RFID tag. When the data is retransmitted, it would contain the original tag’s TID, making it appear to be valid.

What’s the Concern?
There are few applications where RFID has been successfully spoofed. The largest concern would be individual privacy, where spoofing IDs and credit cards could be plausible, but unlikely.
