QR Codes & “Mobile Monday”
After Thanksgiving dinner, there’s sales. And then comes Black Friday, followed by Cyber Monday—but should it be more appropriately called Mobile Monday?
It’s estimated that 28 percent of smartphone-owning consumers shopped via their mobile device on Thanksgiving day—up almost double from last year.
Some stores, like Sears, created “gift walls” outside of their stores with QR codes that allow customers to buy products online simply by scanning a barcode.
Beyond QR codes, the holiday season will be filled with mobile shopping apps. Chia Chen, mobile practice leader for Digitas, stated, “…mobile is not just another channel. It’s a technology-driven cultural phenomenon that is changing how people are connecting to brands and commerce.”
