Do Smartphones have a Place in the Warehouse?

With the popularity of BYOD taking offices by storm, it only makes sense that this trend would carry through to the warehouse. But does it?

A recent Honeywell Whitepaper explores the pros and cons of BYOD in the warehouse, stating that while the devices are familiar and thus user-friendly, there are a significant amount of drawbacks.

Before a consumer-grade device can be considered for warehouse use, a few problems need to be addressed. The durability of these devices is questionable and connecting to a WMS application is not always possible.

However, despite these concerns, a recent study revealed that warehouse and transportation companies are very interested in using consumer-grade smartphones and tablets. The perceived benefits are:
