Implementing RFID: Tips & Tricks

Barcoding, Inc. was recently featured in The Barcode News for a discussion regarding best RFID practices.

In order to get the most out of your RFID implementation, it’s important to:

Manage Expectations
Make sure everyone in the company understands the company’s needs vs. what an RFID solution can actually provide.

Evaluate Processes
Use an upcoming RFID implementation as an opportunity to critique existing procedures and tweak if necessary.

Create Requirements
Use a requirements document to describe how processes should flow, noting specific steps and functional responsibilities.

Perform a Site Survey
Visit the planned RFID installation location in order to perform an RF Spectrum Analysis and physical survey to ensure there will not be any competing signals.

Use Barcodes
Just because you are implementing an RFID solution doesn’t mean you have to abandon the barcode—use RFID tags with barcodes and human-readable data to ensure all bases are covered.

Select Tags
There are many different types of RFID tags, so make sure you select the right one for your solution.
